The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 42: The Drunkcast 1: Can't we all just get along?

The first episode of 2017 is here and the wait is over. THE TIME HAS COME!!! The boys have been talking about it for months now and now they're dousing you with it! That's right, it's the DRUNKCAST!! And what a time for it. With a new president carving out his "legacy" even before he takes office now finally having taken office, there's been a reaction and it will not be ignored. And they're going to drunkenly talk about it (and somehow manage to be poignant too)! With "the Audience" in tow and between the Women's March, the Illuminati, more Marvel fanning out, and Sad John Cena, this particular assembly is definitely a thing to hear! The overall thing to take from this? We're all in this together, y'all. So come on down and pour yourselves a drink because the boys are already ahead of you!

The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 38: John Cena vs The World!

Alright, 'Combies! The boys are back and just hanging out. This time around the discussion is focused very locally and then it spirals out to include economy, Rick and Morty referencess, travel, worst places, conventions and more. Better Pontiac Comic Book Workshop

For the last few years I have been teaching comic book illustration and writing under the auspices of the Metro Detroit artists group Detroit Trade Craft. I trained many artists under that group who have gone on to do some outstanding work. However it was decided that Detroit Tradecraft wasn't in the business of training any longer, so I had a dilemma...

If I wanted to keep training artists I would need some support. It just so happens that my long-time buddies Sean Kammer and Chris Gratten had started a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making my hometown of Pontiac, Michigan a better place. So ultimately I thought maybe I could do some things together with their non profit Better Pontiac. So I took the workshop to them to help me facilitate.

It has worked out wonderfully so far. Last year's class put out an anthology comic showcasing the writing and drawing skills of the group. This year our goal is to do the same. I teach a Wednesday night workshop at our local university. I teach 3 Saturday classes (1 in Pontiac, 1 in Downtown Detroit and a late night Skype Class). I have met some outstanding people teaching this class and many of the students self-publish.

Sean, his wife Megan, and Chris, along with our liaison and fellow board member Alexa are outstanding people. Their belief in the program makes me want to work even harder to produce an outstanding crop of creators.

Camera Mart's Demo Days returns with sales, swag and newest models of cameras

Calling all Metro Detroit photographers! This month features the event Demo Days at Camera Mart in Pontiac, the area's best location for cameras and photography equipment. The event is on June 15 & 16 at Camera Mart on Telegraph Road in Pontiac.

There will be manufacturer and vendor representatives there to show off the latest models of cameras and to answer any of your questions. You can get a free sensor cleaning (on a first-come, first-serve basis) for two of your cameras and win Camera Mart swag.

There will also be a raffle for a FREE Canon Rebel T3i camera! Camera Mart's Facebook page explains the details of the event, as well as what you can do to increase your chances of winning that T3i (for instance, tweeting or sharing Demo Days or, ahem, writing about it on your blog).

This event is a great way to shop for that camera you have in mind or to get some new equipment (there is NO SALES TAX on most items during Demo Days).

The future of Imaginos Workshop

Imaginos Workshop is a name we have given to a group of friends that came together through fate, or coincidence, or whatever you choose to call it. We are very different in age, race and personal history but the one thing that ties us together is a common appreciation of the arts. We are just a small chunk of a generation (or two generations, really) that grew up on some form of comic books, movies, television and every other form of storytelling out there. Since we were quite little we gained an appreciation for storytelling no matter what form it was packaged in. For me it was having my father read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy to me and my younger brother before we fell asleep at night. At that time I decided I wanted to be a movie director and make an exhaustive, line-by-line adaptation of the books and put it on the silver screen. Now I'm older and I do a lot more writing than I do directing, and some scruffy Hobbit-looking guy beat me to the task. Regardless, I have never lost my fascination with faraway worlds, and how they help to open my eyes to the world around me.

Sitting down and writing a comic book and a movie script is just the beginning. I do not know what the future holds, but I don't see myself ever losing my interest in these various storytelling mediums. What I would like to see Imaginos Workshop become is a community; a wide-spreading network of people that grew up, like us, listening to stories. If we get enough people together willing to produce those stories together there is no limit to what we can accomplish. I've grown up in the metro Detroit area and this has always been home to me. It is a city that's gotten a bad rap for a long time, and it is still hard to count the number of derelict buildings; forlorn husks of dried-out memories. But there is also an attitude of hope now that has been gone for a long time. People can feel instinctively that Detroit is coming back, and Imaginos Workshop wants to be there when it does. By then we want to be not just a group of friends, or a even a company. We want to start a Revolution. It starts with anyone who's ever picked up a paintbrush or written a short story, or feels like they could make a kick-ass movie about a giant monster attacking Manhattan. 


In the meantime, we are content to fly under the radar and work towards our goal. You can help us get there by reading our blog, or by "Liking" the stuff we post to facebook. If you see something here you like, please comment and start a dialogue. See that group of members to the right? Click on "Join this Site" and you can get updates on our activity. We need people like you to get to that place I've been telling you about. (For me, it culminates in holding a surprisingly heavy gold statue of a man in my hand). Ultimately, we want to blur the line between "fan" and "creator." If you have skill with writing, drawing, coloring or editing shoot us a line and we will get back to you. After all, we are still fans ourselves, making a go at doing what we love most.
