How Imaginos ROCKED!! Michigan Comicon!!!!!

It was the inaugural show for the Michigan Comic Con. Joe and I are definitely con pros but we really didn't know what to expect this time. I am happy to say we were PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! Held over the gorgeous weekend of August 17-19th (the same weekend as  Dream Cruise, The Muscle Car Festival and the African World Festival) one would not think that so many people would venture down to Cobo Hall to come to the show Maybe thinking isn't my forte'.

From the minute we walked into the convention center to set up our table this con felt far different than what were used to locally ie The Motor City Comic Con. We easily found our tables and the con staff was very friendly. This was the general gist among all the exhibitors we talked to. The people working concessions at the center were also really good to us. It was probably all they could do in lieu  of the high priced con food, Prices aside we did very well sales wise. We actually sold out of everything we brought to sell. I even managed to do a few convention sketches

It helped that we went guerrilla with our marketing just like the old days. Instead of pricey business cards we opted to print pocket size flyers talking about who we are and what we do. What was also a convention hit was our Comic book Manga Workshop initiative. This is a Saturday class we do in Pontiac in partnership with the nonprofit Better Pontiac. The culmination of this class is our yearly free comic book day addition of our popular anthology IMAGINOS PLUS. People also loved that we give back to the community.

We got to see a lot of people we hadn't seen in a while. The highlight was seeing Desmond Jones, brother of comic great Arvell Jones. Desmond has always supported me and I thank him very much for it. We also got a chance to hang out with our buddy Ervin Johnson our homie from the fledgling manga company SHINING OTAKU and the rest of Detroit Tradecraft. There were so many cool people there it was hard to count. What was the coolest is our studio mates Shyla Crump and Trey Ragatz came out to help man the table.

Parking was more expensive than the last time we set up at a show down there. With Downtown Detroit jumping like it is I can see why prices have gone up. I am kinda bummed that I missed CHARIVARI, the house music festival put on annually by Todd Johnson (co-creator of TRIBE,the best selling black comic book of a all time). Oh well maybe next year.

The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 55: Un-Aliving the Author!!

ALRIGHT, 'COMBIES!! Your boys are taking it to some interesting places this time around. The big topic centers on the concept of "The Death of the Author", but we've got a whole lot of other fun and not-so fun bits sprinkled all throughout the show. With the standard topic distractions and derailments, weird jokes, and uncomfortable truths, there's also a bit of somberness thrown in for balance as well. So come on down, sit back, and feel something with your boys as we go through a wide-range of topics in a surprisingly short span of time and a surprise ending that none of you will see coming.

The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 54: Squabble Ad Infinitum -or- How I learned to love a mad Titan

What's up, 'Combies! The time has come. A moment 10 years in the making. Avengers: Infinity War has arrived and it wasn't a subtle entrance. It was loud and boisterous, all the while breaking records and hearts. This movie is most definitely a cinematic event and it has left a major impression on everyone that's seen it. So because of that, ya' boys are going to need a little help to unpack so we called in a friend to help us out with that. So come on down, kick back, and join in the group therapy as we deal with the monumental film that just happened to all of us.

The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 51: The Trope-a-Dope

Alright, 'Combies! After our recent milestone (see the last episode), we decided to take a bit easy for this episode and moved our natural analysis towards something a bit broader. Looking over the broad spectrum of fictional media, for this episode, we're looking at tropes. That's right, tropes; cliches and concepts that we've seen pop up in book after book, movie after movie, etc. There's a lot of them out there, so ya' boys decided to address the ones that we like and the ones that we loathe. Also, get ready to learn some interesting stuff about our esteemed host. It's a hoot this time around, so come on down and let's get into it!

The Honeycomb Hideout Episode 50: This is FAR from The Last Jedi, Internet!!

Alright, 'Combies! Welcome to 2018! Not even a month in and things are all too "interesting" already. But, for our 50th episode, we're tackling something exceptionally divisive within the geek community and doesn't appear to be dying down anytime soon. With the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there's been a wave of love and outrage over this movie that hasn't been seen since the Prequels as the fanbase is virtually split down the middle over it. (Star Wars: Civil War? Nah! Too redundant.) So now, your boys are diving into the film with a full review and in-depth discussion of it. So come on down, find out how The Last Jedi made us feel, and our take on the internet's reaction to the movie. It's gonna be a trip, y'all!
